Rosacea or Adult Acne
January 24, 2012 – 2:40 pmRosacea is a skin disease which causes redness and pimples on your nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead. The redness may come and go. The main rosacea symptoms include: facial redness, pimples on the face, red lines on the cheeks (expanding blood vessels), swollen bumps on the nose, and eyes irritation. Rosacea tends to affect people who have fair skin or blush easily, and it seems to run in families. To keep rosacea under control it’s important to find out your triggers. Rosacea tends to worsen over time if left untreated. If you experience persistent redness of your face, see your doctor or a skin specialist (dermatologist) for a diagnosis and proper treatment. There is no cure for rosacea, but with treatment, most people can control their symptoms and keep the disease from getting worse. Certain moisturizers, mild cleansers, sunscreens and other products may be used to improve the health of your skin. Doctors may also prescribe antibiotic creams or pills to treat redness and pimples. Antibiotic pills may also help treat eye problems. In severe and rare cases, the oil glands (sebaceous glands) in your nose and sometimes your cheeks become enlarged, resulting in a buildup of tissue on and around your nose. This complication is much more common in men and develops slowly over a period of years.
