About concussion treatment

January 9, 2012 – 10:15 pm

Some estimates say a mild brain trauma is sustained every 21 seconds in the U.S. The concussion treatment involves a neuropsychologist examining the extent of damage that has been sustained in the head. Much of the experience in caring for mild head injuries comes from the treatment of sports injuries.
A concussion results from a closed-head type of injury and does not include injuries in which there is bleeding under the skull or into the brain. Anterograde amnesia is where you are unable to remember any new information or events after the concussion happened. Concussions are a common injury seen in athletes who compete in contact and/or collision sports. Some children may act fine, even if they feel different than normal.
